Built between the 11th and 14th centuries, the Catedral de Ávila is an iconic and beautiful piece of architecture in the province of Ávila. A mighty fortified cathedral, it has walls, towers and battlements that recall the city's turbulent past, when it was attacked and occupied by the Moors and other foreigners. The interior of the Cathedral of Ávila is a mix of Romanesque and Gothic styles, including amazing archways and porticoes. Highlights include the extensive collection of sculptures and wooden carvings, and the dazzling stained glass windows. There is also the plateresque sacristy, once the headquarters of the Inquisition. The Cathedral is truly a sight to behold, offering visitors a glimpse into the city's tumultuous past.
