Castillo de Olite
📍 Spain
The Castillo de Olite is an outstanding example of Gothic-style military architecture located in the Navarra Province of northern Spain. The castle’s walls, towers, and passageways were erected in the 13th and 14th centuries and have withstood many wars and centuries of weathering. The interior contains magnificent 15th- and 16th-century frescoes, as well as a chapel and palace. The fortification also houses the Palacio Real, a collection of palaces, which is a sophisticated complex of dwellings that were home to King Carlos III. Today, the castle is a museum and offers visitors the opportunity to explore and learn about the history and importance of the region. Casa de Canciller, one of the palaces, also houses a museum of Navarre History. The castle grounds are also home to an event site, an open-air theater, an animal park, a school of navigation, and a hostel. The views of the countryside are breathtaking and the cobblestone streets are lined with shops and cafes, making the complex a must-see for any visitor to the area.
