The Castillo de Frías, perched atop a steep hill in the town of Frías in Burgos, Spain, is a stunningly preserved example of a medieval Spanish castle. Constructed in the early 13th century, it is considered to be one of the most important sites of the period, both from a historical and architectural standpoint. From the parts of the castle that are still visible, it is clear that the fort was well fortified, with substantial walls and strategically placed defensive towers. Although the castle is now in ruins, it offers a great opportunity to experience a piece of Spanish medieval history. Visitors to the site can explore the fascinating remains, follow the remains of a wall that encircles the castle and find the remains of several funnels, towers and dungeons. It also features the interesting San Juan de Ortega gate and the Santa Lucía Tower. An ideal place to immerse yourself in Spain’s rich history, Castillo de Frías is a must-visit for those who enjoy historical sites.
