The museum itself is housed in the Castelvecchio, a medieval red brick castle located on the south side of the Adige River in the centre of Verona. The castle dates from the 14th century, and the museum exhibits the construction history of the castle alongside its artworks. Inside, there are also numerous frescoes and statues, along with a few other historical artifacts. There are frequent events and guided tours, including the opportunity to tour the castle's interior spaces.
