📍 From Royal Park, Romania
Bran Castle rises on a rocky outcrop above Bran, near Brașov, at a historic gateway between Transylvania and Wallachia. Built in the 14th century as a fortress, it later became a royal residence closely associated with Queen Marie of Romania. Although marketed as “Dracula’s Castle,” it was not the home of Vlad the Impaler, the historical figure commonly linked with the fictional vampire. Whitewashed walls, steep red-tiled roofs and irregular towers create a distinctive silhouette against the wooded Carpathian slopes. Inside, narrow stairways and passages connect rooms around a compact courtyard, revealing a more intimate scale than the imposing exterior suggests.
