Castelo do Monsaraz is a stone walled medieval fortress in Évora, Portugal, overlooking the Alentejo plains. Built in the 13th century, the castle was once part of the border between Christian Portugal and the Muslim Algarve. Today, the castle is open to visitors and one can explore its chapel, towers, and battlement walls for an insight into Portugal's history. From the landscape, one can view the surrounding plains and the nearby old town of Monsaraz, just a few kilometers away. The castle is a great spot for photography, as the gardens offer stunning views and the fortress itself provides an interesting study in medieval architecture.
