Castello Aragonese in Otranto is the compact coastal fortress that frames the eastern edge of the town, a visible link between historic walls and the Adriatic waterfront. Its thick, weathered stone bastions and angular ramparts reflect its role as a defensive stronghold; the castle’s mass sits low to the sea and creates a sculptural contrast with narrow town alleys behind it. Photographically, the castle rewards compositions that use the harbor and seafront promenade as foreground: mirrored water at calm times, the sharp geometry of bastions against sky, and close-up studies of pitted limestone and iron fixtures. From the battlements you get framed views back over Otranto’s orange roofs and the open Adriatic, a useful counterpoint between human scale and maritime horizon.
