The Castello Aragonese di Baia is an impressive triangular-shaped castle situated atop a rocky volcanic island in Bacoli, Italy. This 16th century castle, commissioned by the Spanish viceroy Giovanni Alvarez de Toledo, is accessed by a footbridge. Inside you will find an extensive network of underground tunnels and rooms with fascinating frescoed ceilings and portraits of famous people. Durable even after earthquakes, invasion and bombardment, this castle today is the home of the US Navy research centre, the Centro di Ricerca Termotecnica. Make sure to walk around the fortress walls and take amazing photos of the picturesque views of the Mediterranean Sea; and don't forget to visit the lighthouse, churches, and small fishing village located on the island.
