Castell de Tamarit crowns a rocky headland on Tarragona’s northeastern coast, beside Tamarit beach and near the mouth of the Gaià River. The medieval complex formed part of a fortified settlement and includes the Romanesque church of Santa Maria, bringing religious and defensive architecture together within its walls. Its pale stone towers and battlements rise above the shoreline, with the broad sandy beach providing a clear view of the castle’s compact silhouette against the Mediterranean. Later restoration helped shape its present appearance, and the privately managed complex now serves as a venue for weddings and events.
