Castell d’Altafulla, also known as Castell dels Montserrat, crowns the Vila Closa, Altafulla’s historic walled quarter in Tarragona province. Of medieval origin and remodeled over later centuries, the castle formed the defensive and seigneurial center around which the old town developed. Its pale stone walls, crenellated towers and compact, fortress-like silhouette rise beside the Church of Sant Martí, creating Altafulla’s most recognizable skyline. Narrow lanes, arches and warm masonry frame varied views from below, while the castle is especially striking when low light defines its battlements and textured façades. It remains privately owned, so photography generally focuses on the exterior and its relationship with the surrounding old town.
