Castel Nuovo (or Maschio Angioino), located in the heart of Naples, Italy, is one of the city's best preserved castles. Built in 1279, the castle served as a royal residence, fortress, and prison for many centuries. The main entrance, the "Porta Reale", is decorated with two imposing marble lions and is accompanied by two monumental towers, the Torrione and the Torrione Angioino. Inside you can explore the large halls, loggias, and courtyards, with their endless spiral staircases and beautiful cloisters. The castle is also home to the magnificent Hall of the Barons, sumptuous ceremonial apartments and the stunning Sala degli Orafi (the Jewelers’ Hall). Take time to enjoy the views from the terrace, the many pieces of art and the intricately decorated historical frescoes. Visit Castel Nuovo for the unique opportunity to experience Naples' majestic past.
