Casco Viejo de San Sebastian is a historic barrio located in the city of San Sebastián. It is the oldest part of the city and despite the damage inflicted to it over time, mainly from the wars between Spain and France, it is still filled with much charm and beauty. It is a small city within a city and is full of narrow curving streets that lead to plazas, cobblestone mosaic pathways, ancient churches, bustling markets and numerous cafes and restaurants. It is one of the few places in Spain that have managed to preserve the materials, handicrafts and customs of the past. During your walk through the old town you will encounter stately mansions, traditional Basque architecture, and original ancient stone walls. The area is vibrant and definitely worth exploring. There are free guided tours through the old quarter or you can explore by yourself. You will find some amazing photo opportunities, whether you're looking for large detailed views or small unexpected details.
