📍 Brazil
Cascatinha Taunay is a waterfall in the Tijuca Forest sector of Tijuca National Park, within Rio de Janeiro’s mountainous urban landscape. Its waters descend roughly 35 metres over exposed rock, surrounded by dense Atlantic Forest vegetation. The name honors Nicolas-Antoine Taunay, a French painter who lived nearby in the early 19th century. The surrounding forest also reflects Rio’s environmental history: extensive replanting followed the clearing of hillsides for coffee cultivation, helping protect the city’s water sources. White cascades against dark rock, broad tropical leaves and the arched stone bridge near the base give photographs a distinctive balance of natural textures and human scale.
