📍 From Rooftop, Spain
Perched atop Antoni Gaudí’s Casa Milà (La Pedrera) in Barcelona’s Eixample district, the rooftop is a sculptural landscape of chimneys and ventilation towers that read like abstract, helmeted figures. Gaudí transformed functional elements into biomorphic forms: curving stone plinths, tiled crowns and wind-scarred silhouettes that break the orthogonal grid of Passeig de Gràcia below. Visually it’s compelling for its rhythm of repeated shapes, strong diagonal shadows at low sun, and the textured stone that looks carved rather than built; the chimneys appear as a forest of sentinels against the city skyline. The roof is an integral part of the visitor route and is accessible to the public, offering close-up study of form and a unique vantage over the surrounding Eixample blocks.
