Casa Eleonora Duse stands on Via Canova in Asolo’s historic center and preserves the memory of the celebrated Italian stage actress who chose this hill town as a retreat. Duse was a major figure in European theatre, admired for an emotionally direct acting style that contrasted with the more declamatory performances of her era. Her attachment to Asolo extended beyond her lifetime: after her death in the United States in 1924, she was buried in the town’s Sant’Anna cemetery. The commemorative plaque on the house’s façade gives a modest streetscape a biographical focus, connecting the intimate scale of Asolo’s old center with an international theatrical career.
