Carlsbad Caverns National Park in New Mexico is one of the most famous underground wonders of the world. It's filled with stunningly ornate limestone formations, stalactites, stalagmites, and of course, its namesake - grand caverns. Visitors can explore these unique geological formations by taking the traditional “Big Room” self-guided tour, or joining ranger-led group or specialty cave trips to discover hidden parts of the cave. Above ground, the park boasts a scenic desert landscape, with areas of yucca and cactus as well as ancient desert trails to explore. Wildlife is abundant, including several species of bats that call the caves home. Visitors can take part in educational programs such as Desert Ecology Talks and Trail Walks, as well as the Evening Bat Flight Program from April to October. Carlsbad Cavern National Park is a popular destination for all ages.
