Cappella della Madonna di Vitaleta is a small, picturesque chapel located in the hill countryside in San Quirico d'Orcia, Italy. The chapel was painted in 1818 and is dedicated to Mary, mother of Jesus. It is a masterpiece of Renaissance architecture with a simple, one-room structure composed of soft pink tuff walls and a graceful tabernacle. It is surrounded by a beautiful Tuscan landscape of green fields and dotted by cypress trees. The chapel is a favorite traditional resting place of renaissance painters and has been featured in many works of art. Visitors can take in the breathtaking views of the rolling hills from the chapel’s flat roof. The view includes the town’s castle walls rising on the hill above the chapel. Since the chapel holds such sentimental value, it has been declared one of UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites.
