📍 From Via Cappella, Italy
Capo Miseno is the volcanic headland at Bacoli that marks the northwestern edge of the Gulf of Naples. Its steep tuff cliffs and lighthouse rise above channels facing Procida and Ischia, while broader views extend across the bay toward Naples and Vesuvius. In Roman times, nearby Misenum housed the principal naval base of the western imperial fleet, giving this dramatic coastline major strategic importance. The name also carries a literary echo: in Virgil’s Aeneid, Misenus, trumpeter of Aeneas, is buried at the cape. West-facing slopes, layered cliffs, island silhouettes, and evening light make the seaward panorama especially distinctive.
