Capela Sra. do Além is a beautiful chapel located in Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal, perched atop a hill on the banks of the Douro river. With its small bell tower and two adjoining galleries, the chapel dominates the landscape of the surrounding area. It was built in the 16th century to pay tribute to the Virgin Mary, and serves as a place of worship. Inside, you can find an impressive marble pulpit, an exquisite altarpiece surrounded by azulejos tiles, and an 18th century organ. From the outside, you can enjoy spectacular views of the city, especially during the night-time when the chapel is illuminated. Not to be missed if you’re in Vila Nova de Gaia!
