📍 Indonesia
Candi Bentar is the monumental split gateway marking an entrance to Taman Mini Indonesia Indah in East Jakarta, the cultural park devoted to Indonesia’s regional architecture and traditions. Its two matching, temple-like halves draw on the candi bentar form associated especially with Balinese architecture: an open passage divides a symmetrical mass, signaling a transition into a new precinct. The strong central axis, stepped profiles, textured surfaces, and broad roadway are most recognizable in a straight-on composition, where the mirrored towers frame arrivals and hint at the architectural variety beyond.
