The Canal de la Deule is a canal in Lille, France, running from Lille's Old Town up to Hellemmes, a northeastern suburb of Lille. The National Conservatory of Lille spans the entire length of the river, preserving its pristine beauty and atmosphere. The canal is perfect for leisurely strolls, having a picnic, or simply relaxing in the sun. It is especially popular in the summer when everyone enjoys the fresh air of the canal. Along the banks here, visitors can observe much of the wildlife which inhabits this part of the city such as herons, mallards, swans and geese. Fishing is also possible from designated areas. There are plenty of pathways, benches and terraces here, making it easy to traverse the entire length without getting lost. On Sundays, its street market offers many local crafts, souvenirs and fresh produce from the surrounding region.
