The Long Cairn is the larger of two Neolithic chambered tombs at the Cairns of Camster, set on open moorland near Occumster in Caithness. Its elongated stone mound incorporates two burial chambers, each reached through a low passage, and belongs to a distinctive northern Scottish tradition of monumental communal tomb building. From ground level, the cairn’s scale emerges through its long, low profile, rough grey stonework and angular forecourt, while the surrounding peatland and broad northern sky give the structure a stark sense of isolation. The neighboring Round Cairn provides a useful visual contrast in form and proportion.
