The spectacular Campanile della Cattedrale di San Pietro, built between the 12th and 14th centuries, is one of the most emblematic monuments of Bologna, Italy. Sitting in front of San Petronio Basilica, it is an impressive sight to behold. Constructed in Romanesque style, this 186-foot bell tower is an important piece of Italian architecture. This tower is especially well known for the poetically named “Two Towers” of Bologna, along with the 11th century Torre degli Asinelli. Its architecture is a combination of numerous decorative elements, from the impressive terracotta figurines on the upper part to its statues and its marble portals. The upper part of the tower also houses several bells, and is considered as a symbol of the city and its religious past. Visitors can climb the 400+ stairs to reach the top and enjoy a 360-degree view of the city. At nighttime, the tower is illuminated and can be admired from far away. Visiting the Campanile della Cattedrale di San Pietro is a must-visit for history and architecture lovers.
