The Campanile del Duomo is the freestanding bell tower of Lecce’s cathedral complex, rising from the intimate Piazza del Duomo and anchoring the ensemble of cathedral, bishops’ palace and seminary. Carved from warm local pietra leccese, its surface is an exercise in Salentine Baroque: layered stages, arched belfry openings and dense sculptural ornament that reads as bas-relief when light grazes the stone. Photographers will notice its strong vertical rhythm against the low surrounding buildings, the way late light brings out honeyed tones and deepens carved shadows, and the compositional opportunities from adjacent alleys that compress perspective to emphasize scale and texture. The tower is part of the civic-religious heart of Lecce and is photographed in context with the adjoining façades.
