📍 Chile
The Campanil de la Universidad de Concepción is the freestanding clock and bell tower that anchors the university’s main campus, near the foot of Cerro Caracol. Completed in 1943 and standing 42 metres tall, it has become a symbol of both the university and Concepción itself. Its slender white shaft, clock faces and open belfry create a distinctive silhouette against the wooded hills behind the campus. Beside it, the Foro’s broad, stepped outdoor space gives the tower a civic setting, shaped by student life and university gatherings. Photographs from across the Foro reveal the contrast between the tower’s vertical form and the horizontal terraces, with people providing a clear sense of scale.
