Calanques National Park sits along the Mediterranean coast between Marseille and Cassis and is a stitched landscape of steep white limestone cliffs, narrow sea inlets (calanques) and pockets of maquis scrub. The place is visually striking for its raw geological contrasts: pale, sculpted rock dropping almost vertically into vivid turquoise coves, punctuated by windswept pines and sun-baked terraces. Photographs benefit from strong horizontal layers and dramatic scale—tiny boats or climbers give a sense of height—while calm days create glassy reflections in the sheltered creeks and low sun emphasizes texture and warm tones on the cliffs. Many of the most photogenic coves are reached by boat or by steep, rocky trails; expect rugged approaches and concentrated visitor activity at popular access points.
