📍 From From the cliffs, Portugal
Cabo da Roca Lighthouse is located in Colares, Portugal and is the westernmost point in the European mainland. This imposing lighthouse stands on a rocky headland of the same name. It stands on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean, a stunning sight surrounded by the rocky steep cliffs. The lighthouse was put up in 1772 being operated by the Royal Mail, and is still in use to this day. Visitors can climb to the top of the lighthouse for some stunning vistas of the coastline. It is worth noting that the setting makes visiting here quite dangerous due to the strong winds and currents. At the base of the lighthouse, visitors will find the old da Roca Chapel, a charming ancient chapel that dates from the 17th century. The lighthouse itself is situated within a huge coastal park of the same name and is a great spot for trail walks or to see the local wildlife.
