The Bunker in Burgh-Haamstede is an interesting structure designed by Dutch architect J. F. Staal as a coastal defense fortification during the late 19th century. Located on the banks of the Oosterschelde, the Bunker is a great spot for a walk along the general area and explore its history. Rich in wildlife, the area features many species of birds and a variety of flora. With picturesque views of the ocean and the nearby village of Burgh-Haamstede, the Bunker offers visitors an opportunity to explore the history of the Netherlands from a unique perspective. Adjacent to the Bunker is the Oosterschelde flood barrier, which is a great spot to watch boat traffic and also serves as a reminder of the importance of coastal defense. The Bunker also offers unique activities such as kayaking, canoeing and sailing in the area, allowing for an exciting adventure. Lastly, campgrounds are available close by for those who wish to stay longer.
