Los Angeles' Pershing Square is a unique slice of downtown cityscape. Located on the south side of the city, it features a mix of architectural styles, sculpture, fountains and seating areas beneath the shade of trees. The square itself is a great example of urban revitalization and the surrounding historic district is well worth exploring. Highlights include the Biltmore Hotel, American Theater (originally an IMAX movie theater), the newly re-opened Ace Hotel and the angular, Frank Gehry-designed Walt Disney Concert Hall. At the center is a 5-acre green space with grand stairways, pathways, seasonal flowers and historical sites of interest. On the west end is an amphitheater that plays host to special events and performances throughout the year.
