Machu Picchu is one of the world's most iconic and popular ancient sites. Built by the Incas, probably around 1450 AD, it stands high in the Andean Mountains of Peru. Machu Picchu is often referred to as the "Lost City of the Incas" and is the most important symbol of the Inca Empire.
