Situated in the turreted old town of Kurma, the Buddhist Stupa overlooks the Amur River valley. It’s a remarkable part of the Konga village where Russia meets the Chinese border. Dated to the 18th century, the Stupa was built by Lama Anujang and his father, Sangtsam, who were the regional leaders of Tibetan Buddhism. The building is typical of a Chinese or Tibetan Buddhist temple as the prominent feature is a four-tiered altar and a domed top. It is made of red and white sandstone with four pillars supporting its structure. Unlike other more colorful temples, this harmonious dark and white-lit structure stands out as it creates a vivid contrast against the striking blue sky. Visitors to the Stupa will likely come across ancient Tibetan scholars meditating or praying. This is a great destination to experience a serene moment of reflection and admiration of Mongolian-Buddhism-inspired traditional architecture. For photographers and travelers, capturing this scene is sure to create a unique, beautiful memory.
