📍 United Kingdom
Buachaille Etive, which comes from the Gaelic for "great herdsman of the etive," is a mountain in the Scottish Highlands situated in Glen Etive, a part of the spectacular landscape of Scotland's wild west coast. The mountain is most famous for its iconic "pyramidal" silhouette which can be seen from many miles away, particularly when driving along the A82 road which passes through Glen Etive. From the car park, the popular route up Buachaille Etive starts at around 500 m above sea level and climbs to the summit at 1,029 m. It is a relatively easy climb with no scrambling required, although in winter months a good level of fitness is advised. The views from the top are spectacular, with the two peaks showcasing dramatic ridges and steep valleys below, as well as spectacular views of the surrounding Glen Etive and Glencoe. Trekking up Buachaille Etive can be a rewarding and uplifting experience, with majestic panoramas of the highlands opening up on the way.
