Sacred Valley, Peru situated between Cusco and the village of Machu Picchu, the Sacred Valley of the Incas (Urubamba Valley) was very important in the Inca Empire. The Sacred Valley is plentiful with Incan ruins, including the stunning archaeological sites of Pisac, Ollantaytambo, Chinchero and Moray, as well as stunning natural resources, featuring a mix of mountains, rivers, terraces and meadows. Of particular interest are the ruins of the fortified city of Ollantaytambo, which most people consider the best-preserved of all Inca settlements. Along the banks of the Vilcanota River are numerous Inca ruins and terraces, including the ancient archaeological site and fortress of Sacsayhuaman. Finally, the market town of Pisac is famous for its ancient Inca ruins and colorful Sunday markets, where locals come to sell their produce and traditional handicrafts.
