Brunel's SS Great Britain is an incredible example of engineering genius and a must-see destination for all visitors to Bristol City. Designed by the engineering legend Isambard Kingdom Brunel, it was the world’s first great ocean-going iron ship. It was built in the 1850s and then spent 34 years travelling the world. Now moored in Bristol’s dockyards, it has been lovingly restored to its full glory and visitors can wander its decks and fascinating exhibits to get a true feel of the past. During a visit guests can explore the “Below Decks” area and go inside the legendary engine room and boiler room. There are interesting interactive displays which showcase the ship’s history and give a real insight into life aboard a ship in Victorian times. There are also guided tours which focus on specific aspects of the ship. Don’t forget to make time to visit the onsite museum and explore the replica Bridge, Bay of Biscay, and Lounge space and learn about the life of Brunel - the man who made it all happen. All in all, Brunel's SS Great Britain is an absolute must-see destination when visiting Bristol!
