Broadstairs Harbour occupies the northern side of Viking Bay, tucked below the clifftop streets of this Kent seaside town. Its compact pier and small fleet of fishing and leisure boats recall Broadstairs’ maritime roots while forming a striking contrast with the broad sandy beach and chalk headlands beyond. The scene changes markedly with the tide: water and hull reflections animate the basin at high tide, while exposed sand and grounded boats reveal its shallow scale at low water. Above the harbour, the town’s terraces and Bleak House connect the view with Charles Dickens, who regularly stayed in Broadstairs and drew inspiration from the area.
