Bremen Marktplatz
📍 Germany
Bremen Marktplatz is one of the most famous squares in Germany – it first appears in the city's records in 1035 AD! This historic market square features the famous statue of Roland, the symbol of Bremen's freedom since the 12th century. As the city's main square, it is a major economic and social hub, hosting offices of credit and insurance institutions, banks, and local government offices. On the south side of the Marktplatz, you can find the town hall and the gothic-style Town Hall (Ratshaus). The Böttcherstrasse, an arts and crafts street with terracotta facades in the style of German Expressionism, starts from the market and runs parallel to the river. The square is a major tourist destination, and there is plenty to do and see. Visit the Town Musicians of Bremen monument, shop at the local stalls and boutiques, or take a walk down the Old Town – all of which are nearby.
