📍 From Drone, Indonesia
Brahmavihara-Arama is a Buddhist monastery in the hills near Banjar, west of Singaraja in Bali’s Buleleng regency. Its terraced grounds bring together Buddhist shrines, meditation spaces and Balinese-style carved gateways, giving it a distinct identity on an island better known for Hindu temples. A small-scale interpretation of Java’s Borobudur, recognizable by its bell-shaped stone stupas, is a defining feature of the upper complex and connects the site visually with Indonesia’s wider Buddhist heritage. Stepped courtyards and gardens create layered views of sacred architecture against tropical greenery, while the hillside setting opens toward Bali’s north-coast lowlands. This remains a place of worship and meditation, where modest clothing and quiet behavior respect the purpose of the spaces beyond their visual appeal.
