📍 From Boat, Türkiye
Bozcaada Castle stands on a rocky headland opposite the island’s main harbor, guarding the northeastern approach to Bozcaada, historically known as Tenedos. Its commanding position reflects the island’s strategic importance near the entrance to the Dardanelles, where Aegean sea routes have long converged. Fortifications here passed through Byzantine, Genoese, Venetian, and Ottoman hands; the present structure is shaped largely by Ottoman rebuilding and later repairs. Broad stone ramparts, angular bastions, towers, and the dry moat give the castle a severe geometric profile. From the waterfront and arriving ferry, its walls rise above the blue channel as Bozcaada’s defining silhouette, while late-day light brings out the warm tones and rough textures of the masonry.
