Botanical Building
📍 From El Prado Street, United States
The Botanical Building, located in Balboa Park in San Diego, is a classic example of the Spanish Colonial Revival style. It is most famous for its lily pond, with an abundance of aquatic plants and palm trees, making it the perfect place to relax while visiting the area. This palm-lined pond is one of the largest lily ponds in the world and features more than 1,500 exotic and native plants, including palms, tropical vine plants, and aquatic fern species. Built in 1915 and partially destroyed in 1948, the building was painstakingly recreated as a reflection of its original beauty. It is protected under the City of San Diego Historical Landmarks designation, and is a popular tourist attraction. It is also home to horticultural events, photography classes, and is open seven days a week. Visitors can enjoy an array of unusual flora and fauna, or relax in the cascading water fountain.
