📍 From Drone, France
Bonifacio stands at the southern tip of Corsica, its fortified upper town perched on pale limestone cliffs above the strait separating the island from Sardinia. A former Genoese stronghold, it retains ramparts, narrow lanes and tightly packed houses whose seaward façades appear to overhang the eroded rock. Below, a long, sheltered inlet forms the harbor, creating a striking contrast between the marina’s waterfront activity and the compact citadel overhead. The cliffs’ horizontal layers and undercut edges are central to Bonifacio’s recognizable silhouette: views from the water reveal how closely the buildings follow the precipice, while the headland offers sweeping perspectives across the strait. On clear days, Sardinia is visible beyond the sea, placing this Corsican town within its wider Mediterranean setting.
