Bonete de San Tirso is a breathtaking rocky outcrop that overlooks the small village of Villafría in the Cantabrian Mountains of northern Spain. The outcrop is situated in a vast area of grassland and small forested areas, with a breathtaking array of flora and fauna. The unusual rocky formation was created by erosion over thousands of years. The hike to the outcrop can be a bit challenging, however, it is worth it as the views are tremendous. Starting from Villa Franca you will find several routes, with the most popular taking an hour and a half to reach the peak. The highlight of the peak is a cross at the highest point, providing amazing views of the surrounding area. Make sure to bring plenty of food and water as the hike can be strenuous.
