Bolshoy Moskvoretsky Bridge crosses the Moskva River just southeast of the Kremlin, linking the Red Square area with Balchug Island. Built in 1937, its broad, low arch leaves an open view of the Kremlin walls, St. Basil’s Cathedral and the river embankments. The crossing also holds a more recent history: opposition politician Boris Nemtsov was assassinated here in 2015, and the site has become a place of remembrance.
