Bodiam Castle is a beautifully preserved medieval castle located in the small village of Bodiam, East Sussex in the United Kingdom. It dates back to 1385, when it was built by Edward Dalyngrigge to defend against French invasions during the Hundred Years’ War. It has and four rounded towers, a moat, and a drawbridge. The exterior of the castle has remained largely unaltered since the 14th century and images of Bodiam Castle have adorned many books and postcards. Today, it is both a national treasure and a popular tourist destination. Inside the castle walls, there is a variety of rooms including a Great Hall and store rooms, along with spiral staircases, battlements, and rooms that were likely used for lodging. The castle is surrounded by landscaped grounds, and the tower is open to the public for tours. There is a cafe and visitor center located on the premises, as well. Visitors can take photos of the castle and the surrounding area, and it is popular for hiking, picnics, and birdwatching.
