📍 From Dostlerstraße, Germany
Known as the “Four-Cylinder,” BMW’s headquarters stands beside Munich’s Olympiapark, linking the city’s automotive industry with the landscape created for the 1972 Olympic Games. Austrian architect Karl Schwanzer designed the tower, completed in 1973, as four clustered cylinders that echo the form of an engine. Its silver-gray façade, vertical ribs, and dark horizontal window bands make the cylindrical geometry especially legible. Beside it, the low, bowl-shaped BMW Museum, also designed by Schwanzer, creates a striking contrast in scale and silhouette. Across the road, the sweeping glass-and-steel BMW Welt adds a later architectural layer to this concentrated expression of the company’s identity.
