Blowing Rocks Preserve protects a rare stretch of exposed Anastasia limestone on Jupiter Island, along Florida’s Atlantic coast. Waves striking cavities in the shell-rich rock force columns of spray upward, creating the “blowing” effect for which the preserve is named, especially during rough seas and higher tides. At low tide, the same shoreline reveals sculpted ledges, crevices, and shallow pools. The contrast between pale, textured limestone, blue-green water, sea grape, and wind-shaped coastal vegetation gives the landscape its distinctive character, while a short walk through native barrier-island habitat connects the preserve’s quieter interior with the dramatic oceanfront.
