📍 Germany
At the corner of Kochstraße and Wilhelmstraße in Kreuzberg, Aldo Rossi’s perimeter-block housing forms part of the architectural legacy of Berlin’s 1987 International Building Exhibition (IBA). The project reflects the exhibition’s renewed interest in traditional streets and courtyard blocks, rather than isolated buildings set in open space. Rossi’s postmodern approach combines elementary geometry with classical architectural references, giving residential architecture a monumental character. Continuous façades, repeated window rhythms and the treatment of the corner make the building legible as part of the surrounding city, not simply as a standalone object.
