Blick auf das Spalentor is one of Basel's iconic city gates, located in Basel, Switzerland. Dating back to the 12th-century, the gate stands as a reminder of the city's medieval fortifications that were once in place. The gate is situated on the northern border of Basel, overlooking the Rhine. Despite modern urban development, the remains of this ancient landmark are preserved in Basel's cityscape. The gate still stands tall with its two round towers, huge arched entryway and fountains featuring the heads of Dante and Virgil. A small park, Spaleneopark, is located next to the gate which is often visited by locals and tourists alike.
