Blast Beach
📍 United Kingdom
Blast Beach is a small, rugged stretch of shoreline just off Hawthorn, known for its dramatic rocky shore, jagged cliffs and a name that reflects local industrial history. Once fringed by 19th–20th century coal- and lime-related activity, the beach’s sculpted rock and scattered spoil remnants tell a story of extraction and coastal change, making it interesting both for landscape photography and industrial heritage enthusiasts.

The shoreline features steep rock outcrops, narrow shingle coves and extensive rockpools at low tide; the exposed strata and occasional rusted artefacts can be read as a visible record of local geology and past industry. There are no formal buildings or promenades—access follows footpaths from Hawthorn and the site retains a wild, relatively undeveloped character. Unique local notes: parts of the foreshore occasionally reveal coal seams and small, preserved industrial fragments after storms, attracting amateur historians and photographers. Tidal ranges are significant here; some inlets can be cut off at high tide, so timing visits to low-to-mid tide is part of enjoying the place safely. Conservation interest is growing because of its combined natural and industrial heritage.
