Blanca Lake is a high alpine lake near Galena in Washington’s central Cascades, within the Henry M. Jackson Wilderness. Its striking turquoise water comes from fine glacial sediment carried by meltwater from Columbia Glacier. From the trail’s elevated approach, the luminous lake appears enclosed by dark conifer forest, pale talus, and the steep forms of Columbia and Kyes peaks, creating strong contrasts of color and scale. The glacial hue changes with light and sediment levels, ranging from milky blue-green to saturated turquoise, while the rugged basin gives the scene its unmistakable wilderness character.
