Birnbeck Pier
📍 United Kingdom
Once a thriving Victorian structure, Birnbeck Pier stands on the rocky outcrop of Birnbeck Island, connected to the mainland by a partially closed walkway. Built in the 1860s, it holds the distinction of being the only British pier leading to an island, offering stunning views of the Bristol Channel and Welsh coastline. Currently, much of it is derelict and not accessible to the public, but you can still admire its historic silhouette and appeal from the nearby seafront. The site’s Grade II* listing signifies its cultural importance, and there are ongoing efforts to preserve it. Ideal for photography enthusiasts, especially at sunset, it remains a symbol of Weston-super-Mare’s heritage.
